Journal Title: Науковий вісник Південноукраїнського національного педагогічного університету імені К. Д. Ушинського - Year 2016, Vol 108, Issue 1
Abstract
Nowadays the search of optimal means facilitating a rise in motivation while learning foreign languages is con- sidered to be the most objective necessity in modern society. Contemporary methodology takes into consideration the status of a foreign language as a means of communication and understanding in the world society as well as em- phasizes the necessity of the motivation aspect in foreign language study. The problem of motivation in education is burning, especially when dealing with a foreign language. At the very beginning the students’ motivation is high. They want to speak a foreign language with people of their age, to recite poems, to sing songs and to know everything about foreign countries. But the students’ attitude towards the language changes when they start to master it. The accumulating of the material and overcoming of the difficulties become its main reasons. These factors impede the achievement of the purpose and reduce the student’s motivation. Their activity disappears and the academic progress decreases. Modern psychologists and pedagogues express a unanimous opinion that the quality of activity implementation and its result depend upon inspiration, needs and motivation of a particular individual, which, in its turn, arouses the person’s purposeful activity and determines the choice of means and techniques assisting the motivation increase while studying foreign languages. Such means of students’ motivation increase while learning foreign languages as role-playing activities, class- discussions, class-dialogues allow each student to choose the role and train it. They also give them opportunities to improvise, compare themselves with the other persons and propose non-standard decisions. Class-discussions and class-dialogues develop the students’ imagination, mobilize their intellectual capacities and make them independent and initiative. Thus, the definite actions are elaborated at profession-oriented classes and the students analyze their doings, pay attention to their abilities and opportunities to overcome difficulties; they elaborate and realize projects of their pro- fessional development and achieve a certain level of this growth.
