Abstract
In this article a results of contemporary researches about defense mechanisms are described. Author anal- yses 25 English-language publications and makes conclusion that now mechanisms of defense are treated not only as psychoanalytical theoretical construction, but as object of empirical researches too. Author describes contemporary discoveries about this phenomenon: its relationship with mental disorders, personal traits, rela- tion to homosexuality, copings, morality, variants of sexual activity, presence of traumatic experience etc. Also new theoretical suggestions are described.
