Abstract

According to the author of the review of a book by Jacek Hajduk entitled Parnicki, Malewska i długie trwanie (Kraków, 2014), the book successfully presented the transformations of the metaphor of “dawn and fall of Rome” in Polish historical prose of the 20th century. These transformations have undermined the hitherto functioning cultural myth on the downfall of a corrupt pagan civilization, replaced by a new, Christian civilization. In the novel Przemija postać świata, Hanna Malewska rehabilitated the “last Romans” (bestowing on them political qualities), and Teodor Parnicki has worked out a formula for a novelized study of a historical moment, understood as a dynamic, open set of circumstances. Selon l’auteur du compte rendu qui porte sur le livre de Jacek Hajduk intitulé Parnicki, Malewska i długie trwanie (Kraków 2014) [Parnicki, Malewska et la longue durée], l’ouvrage en question démontre avec succès les transformations de la étaphore du « déclin et de la chute de Rome » dans la prose historique polonaise du XXe siècle. Ces transformations mettent une croix sur le mythe culturel qui fonctionnait jusqu’à présent et qui proclamait la chute de la civilisation païenne dégénérée, remplacée par la nouvelle civilisation chrétienne. Dans son roman, Przemija postać świata [L’image du monde qui passe], Hanna Malewska a réhabilité l’image des „derniers Romains” (en lui attribuant une portée politique). En revanche, Teodor Parnicki a élaboré la formule d’étude romanesque du moment historique, considéré comme un noeud d’intrigues ouvert et dynamique.
