METAPHOR IN THE GENERAL CONTEXT OF THE HABITOSCOPIC TERMINOLOGICAL SYSTEM

Abstract
The article describes the terminological vocabulary formed with the help of the lexical-semantic method and meeting the basic rules of human appearance description of the method of verbal portrait. A verbal portrait is used in the investigative and operational-search practice, it is an orderly, systematic description of a person’s appearance using a unified terminology. The subject of the research were metaphorical derivatives, operating in a free and systematic descriptions. Our attention is focused on determining the role of metaphor in the formation, structuring and functioning of the Russian habitoscopic terminology. There were specific characteristics identified that allow metaphorical units to actively function as habitoscopic terms. Clarity, accuracy, vividness, concision, coding and decoding speed, monosemy of the stereotypic image that stores semantic nuances in the long term memory — that is a set of features that can and should grant metaphorical derivatives a dominant position in the habitoscopic terminology. Taking into account the sociolinguistic component of habitoscopic communication, it can be practical to develop a single-balanced system of terms compatible with the professional traditions and speech stereotypes of verbal portrait creators in criminology.
