Methodologies of Measuring Mechanical Power Delivered at the Shaft of an Induction Motor Driven by VFD
Journal Title: INCAS BULLETIN - Year 2012, Vol 4, Issue 4
Abstract
Measuring precise power used by a load of an induction motor driven by a VFD implies a few facts that need to be considered. First, the real electric power. When dealing with waveforms of electric current that contain harmonics, traditional methods of power measuring could lead to inaccurate results. Therefore, further investigation needs to be performed in order to provide meaningful values. Then there is the efficiency. Motor losses are to be taken into account for finding out exactly how much power is being used for a specific application. This paper shows a method of measuring and calculating the electric real power of fundamental harmonic and of extracting an actual output value of mechanical power at the motor shaft. For this purpose we used a data acquisition system made of a basic power quality analyzer and data acquisition software. Harmonic analysis of the waveforms is considered, combined with the use of the true power factor.

Model for self-assessment of an organization’s ability to achieve sustained success
This paper aims to present a model for self-assessment to review the extent to which the organization has adopted the concepts described in ISO 9004:2018 international standard. The self-assessment is used to identify im...
Mechanical testing of CFRP materials for application as skins of sandwich composites
Sandwich structures are ultralight materials that are part of a special class and consist of two face skins, that are thin, light and stiff. These materials are of great interest for aeronautical and aerospace applicatio...
Theoretical View of Some Current Global Security Challenges
As the new millennium starts to unfold, we see before us an area of security that has been radically reshaped since the end of the cold war and the end bipolar division of the world. Deepening globalization brings not on...
Rotordynamic Analysis of Textured Annular Seals With Multiphase (Bubbly) Flow
For some applications it must be considered that the flow in the annular seal contains a mixture of liquid and gas. The multiphase character of the flow is described by the volume fraction of gas (usually air) contained...
Numerical Simulations of Flow in Axial Compressor System, Preparatory Steps for Active Control
For most compressor flows, the existence of turbulent shear stresses is essential to compensate and overcome the adverse pressure gradients without separation. The performance of compressor improves as the turbulent stre...
