Methodologies of Measuring Mechanical Power Delivered at the Shaft of an Induction Motor Driven by VFD
Journal Title: INCAS BULLETIN - Year 2012, Vol 4, Issue 4
Abstract
Measuring precise power used by a load of an induction motor driven by a VFD implies a few facts that need to be considered. First, the real electric power. When dealing with waveforms of electric current that contain harmonics, traditional methods of power measuring could lead to inaccurate results. Therefore, further investigation needs to be performed in order to provide meaningful values. Then there is the efficiency. Motor losses are to be taken into account for finding out exactly how much power is being used for a specific application. This paper shows a method of measuring and calculating the electric real power of fundamental harmonic and of extracting an actual output value of mechanical power at the motor shaft. For this purpose we used a data acquisition system made of a basic power quality analyzer and data acquisition software. Harmonic analysis of the waveforms is considered, combined with the use of the true power factor.

Validation of a helicopter turbulence model on PUMA 330 dynamics
Aircraft and algorithms used in automated flight control are always designed for calm atmospheric conditions; therefore, testing their behaviour in realistic atmospheric conditions implies the necessity for efficient tur...
End-to-end process of hollow spacecraft structures with high frequency and low mass obtained with in-house structural optimization tool and additive manufacturing
In the space sector the most decisive elements are: mass reduction, cost saving and minimum lead time; here, structural optimization and additive layer manufacturing (ALM) fit best. The design must be driven by stiffness...
Numerical simulations on increasing turbojet engines exhaust mixture ratio using fluidic chevrons
This paper refers to some aspects regarding the terms “chevron” and “fluidic chevron” and to the process of increasing the jet engines exhaust mixing rate towards achieving noise reduction. One of the noise reduction met...
Leading Edge Device Aerodynamic Optimization
Leading edge devices are conventionally used as aerodynamic devices that enhance performances during landing and in some cases during takeoff. The need to increase the efficiency of the aircrafts has brought the idea of...
A computational study of heat transfer in a laminar oscillating confined slot jet impinging on an isothermal surface at low Reynolds numbers
Heat transfer in a laminar confined oscillating slot jet is numerically investigated. A uniform inlet velocity profile oscillating with an angle φ, having the following sinusoidal shape: φ= φmax*sin(2πft). φ is in radian...
