M.F. Аkhundzade: tasks of the modern national literature (in context of literature and society, literature and time)

Abstract
This article specifies that M.F. Akhundzade, as a professional literary critic has determined the tasks of the national literature in the context of literature and society, literature and time in his critical articles and in his rich epistolary heritage. He defended always the point of view that the literature has to be in the very processes occurring in the society and to direct them. From this standpoint, M.F. Akundzade has given priority to the western literature comparing it with the oriental literature. At the same time, M.F. Akhundzade was always supporter of the literature with social bias, created based on the time’s requirements and resulting to the progress of the nation. To his mind, this type of literature has to be disseminated into the society and mass. For this purpose, he considered necessary for the literature to have close relations with the media.
