Microstructural changes of AISI 316L due to structural sensitization and its influence on the fatigue properties
Journal Title: Materials Engineering - Materialove inzinierstvo (MEMI) - Year 2014, Vol 21, Issue 4
Abstract
Mechanical and fatigue properties of material are dependent on its microstructure. The microstructure of AISI 316L stainless steel commonly used for the production of medical tools, equipment and implants can be easily influenced by its heat treatment. Microstructural changes and fatigue properties of AISI 316L stainless steel due to the heat treatment consisted of annealing at the temperature of 815°C with the dwell time of 500 hours were analyzed in the present paper. Precipitation of intermetallic phases and carbides was observed as a response of the material to the applied heat treatment. Small negative influence was observed in the case of fatigue region bellow 105 cycles; however the fatigue limit remains unchanged due to the structural sensitization.

Microstructure and properties of cast iron after laser surface hardening
Laser surface hardening of cast iron is not trivial due to the material’s heterogeneity and coarse-grained microstructure, particularly in massive castings. Despite that, hardening of heavy moulds for automotive industry...
Influence of deformation technology on fatigue properties of titanium
The influence of commercially pure Titanium microstructure on fatigue properties and their improvement or deterioration is analyzed in the presented contribution. One tested material was after cold drawing the other afte...
MICROSTRUCTURAL STABILITY OF Ti-46Al-8Ta DURING CREEP
The effect of long-term creep exposure on the microstructure stability of a new cast air-hardenable intermetallic alloy with nominal chemical composition Ti-46Al-8Ta (at .%) was studied. Constat load creep test were per...
CORROSION OF COPPER PIPES JOINTS IN SIMULATED OPERATING CONDITIONS
Joining of copper pipes used for liquid media transport are made as demountable and fixation joints. This work deals with corrosion behavior of the joints made by soft soldering, hard soldering and fitting. Corrosion pro...
COMPUTER CONTROLLED INVESTIGATION OF SURFACE AND BULK PROCESSES IN MG-BASED ALLOYS DURING HYDROGEN ABSORPTION
Different Mg-based alloys were tailored and prepared to investigate the surface and bulk processes during hydrogen absorption. Volumetric-, resistance-, XRD-, optical-, and mass measurements were carried out. Heat treatm...
