Abstract
During the time of the Second Polish Republic, the Polish Teachers Association published – apart from a serious amount of pedagogical journals – some journals aimed for a young audience. Their contents corresponded with the intellectual level and interests of different aged readers. „Mały Płomyczek” was intended for 7–8 years of age, „Płomyczek” for 8–10 year-olds, „Płomyk” and „Młody Zawodowiec” for pre-teens and young teenagers (11–14 years old), while „Szkolna Gazetka Ścienna” for all children in the 7–14 age range. The articles found in periodicals were closely related to public school curriculums and were willingly used as teaching materials, mainly in Polish language, history, geography, and science classes, as well as school workshops. They broadened pupils’ knowledge and made the teaching-learning process more attractive. Many teachers treated the Polish Teachers’ Society’s journals for children as an alternative to school manuals because of their high level of professional knowledge and final editorial effects.
