Journal Title: Вісник Житомирського державного університету імені Івана Франка - Year 2017, Vol 85, Issue 1
Abstract
There are observed similar principles of creativity and quality and ideological content in the poetry of Azerbaijan and Great Britain in the early twentieth century. Prior to World War I, each of these nations concentrated on lyrical and romantical topics of love, beauty and nature. However, the war had impact on literature and after its completion there prevailed topics of war and place of people in this war. Ideological and substantial similarity, brought into the poetry by war, is most vividly seen in Georgian poetry and the works of Azerbaijani romantics. This similarity will be subjected to comparative research. The analysis of war poetry makes it possible to identify ideological flows in the literature of Great Britain and Azerbaijan, similarities in artistic and philosophical approaches of the poets in the West and in the East, and reflection of war in literature. Comparative studies of the poetry of the Great Britain and Azerbaijan allow identifying interesting scientific facts. The problem posed in the article was analyzed on the basis of scientific principles of comparative literature, with prevailing usage of the method of comparative-typological analysis. Typological approach and system analysis were also used in the course of study of the problem. The received results give the reason to say that in the early twentieth century in the literature of these countries there have been developed similar problems and a similar ideological base has been formed. The poets of the both nations approached the topic of the war from different perspectives, but over time they united in a single approach towards the military theme. It is for the first time that Azerbaijan's and Great Britain’s military literature and poetry has been studied in comparative terms, analyzed and revealed similar ideas, themes, and content. The appeal of Azerbaijani poets to the Holy Bible, which was more often made in British literature, and the popularization of the literary and philosophical ideas on this basis has also become a subject of study in this article.
