Mathematical Competence Formation of Applicants of Higher Economic Education on the Example of Using the Application Open Office Calc

Abstract

The method of using the OpenOffice Calc table processor in solving applied problems in mathematics is discussed in the article. It is noted that the dramatic increase in the volume of information, the exacerbation of socio-economic contradictions, accelerating the processes of globalization, the spread of new information and communication technologies in all spheres of life put forward new demands on the content of education and the amount of knowledge that specialists possess. The authors indicate that the use of computer technology in the mathematics teaching provides a wide range of possibilities to solve a number of didactic tasks, including visualization of educational material, compact presentation of the input data of the problem, formation of skills for constructing solutions models, assimilation of new techniques for the use of ICT in the future professional activity. However, despite the availability and broadness of the OpenOffice application package, the problem of developing methods for using some of its applications (including OpenOffice Calc) has not been sufficiently investigated. The method of using the OpenOffice Calc table processor in solving tasks for optimizing economic processes is considered on an example of a transport task. The ability to represent the input data of the task, the reflection of its mathematical model in the table processor is characterized, the features of using the built-in functions SUM and SUMPRODUCT for simplification of calculations, as well as the SOLVER option to find the minimum (maximum) value under given conditions is shown. The article emphasizes the importance of economic interpretation of the results of mathematical calculations. The authors believe that the use of the Open Office Calc application contributes to the formation of mathematical competence of higher education graduates
