Ethics of Ecological Responsibility in the Context of Christian Doctrine

Abstract

In the article the potential of the Christian doctrine for ecological ethics formation is revealed. Responsibility for nature is proved to be the main principle that combines ecological and Christian ethics. Religious comprehension of global ecological problems according to which the main reason of their appearance is human spiritual degradation and the way to solve them is overcoming the spiritual decay of modern humanity is highlighted. Though the Christian concept of creation does not provide human interference into environment but it demands human responsibility. Axiological principle is determined to be the main principle of interaction in the system "human – nature". It was established that Christian theologians pay much attention to human attitude to wealth as well as human attempts to subjugate nature entirely that's why ethical aspect of economic activity is determined to be urgent. It is stated that irresponsible attitude to nature according to Christian doctrine is considered to be sin. According to theologians there is no need to absolute nature and exalt it over human dignity in order to avoid deification of nature as it is not typical of Christianity. The responsibility is global that means that international consolidation of all social institutes is necessary for ecological problems salvation. It is substantiated that outlook transformations are the prerequisite for both spiritual and ecological crisis overcoming. Combining Christian doctrine positions and ecological ethics ones will surely contribute to solving global environmental problems as well as ecologically oriented civilization formation.
