Journal Title: Science Review - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 3

Abstract

Since XVI century Tao – one of historical parts of Georgia – is under control of Turkey. It belongs to the district of Artvini (Ili) Yusufel region (Ilche). At present Tao is bilingual: autochton Georgians speak the state language – Turkish. Education is carried out in Turkish language; it is as well widely used in families and everyday situations. A greatnumber of Tao people have forgotten their mother language – Georgian. As a result of strong connection with Turkish language the speech of Taoan Georgians is undergoing some changes. We have very interesting pattern of mixing Georgian-Turkish spoken codes in the Tao dialect. Generally, it is known two types of mixed language codes: code-mixing and code-switching. Code-switching is a spontaneous, unrealized process. Five main subtypes of code-switching are allocated. All five subtypes of code-switching are found in Tao speech. On the basis of examples of fillers in this paper we analyse the current processes in the speaking of Taoan Georgians which is affected by Turkish language.
