Modeling Flow Stress Compressive Curves of AZ71 Magnesium Alloy at High Temperature and Various Strain Rates

Journal Title: Journal of Science and today’s world - Year 2014, Vol 3, Issue 3

Abstract

Today, magnesium alloys because of properties such as high strength to weight ratio, the least density between structural materials, high molding capabilities, possibility of under pressure molding, high machining ability, good welding capability, suitable heat conduction, maintenance from the other elements against corrosion and easy access, are under the care of many researchers and engineers. Magnesium alloys have suitable potential for using in industries for example aerospace, automobile manufacturing and electronic and their applications are developing. Because of deficit of necessary scientific resources, at present, many research works are accomplishing on these alloys in all over the world. Measurement tests of mechanical properties provide a lot of information for engineers about material properties, including elastic coefficient, yield stress, pressure and tension strength, percent of elongation and strain-stress relation. In this thesis, with accomplishing pressure tests on magnesium AZ71 alloy, has studied strain – stress behavior of this alloy at high temperatures and different strain rates. These experiments have accomplished at2250c and2500c temperatures and0/001, 0/01, 0/1 s-1 strain rates by santam that is equipped with electrical furnace. Temperature effects and strain rate on hot deformation, has been expressed by zener - hollomon equation. With respect to laboratory values, also bulge correction, and numerical correction factors, have been drawn two sets of values for resulted strain and stress, and curves related to whichever. Finally, with respect to past researches, has studied effect of each factors on strainstress and chosen more correct model.
