MONITORING OF MAGNETOSPHERIC PARAMETERS BASED ON COSMIC RAY EFFECTS IN AUGUST 2018
Journal Title: Solar-Terrestrial Physics - Year 2023, Vol 9, Issue 3
Abstract
Using data (uncorrected for the temperature effect) from the global network of neutron monitors (GNNM), along with data from the Yakutsk muon telescope complex and the muon hodoscope URAGAN (Moscow), we have applied a modified spectrographic global survey (SGS) method to the 2018 August event in order to split cosmic ray variations into components of primary, magnetospheric, and atmospheric origin. We obtained time variations in the 4 GV-rigidity primary particle isotropic flux and pitch-angle anisotropy, as well as in the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) orientation. We also showed variations in the geomagnetic cutoff rigidity (GCR) in Irkutsk. Using the obtained data on the changes in the planetary system of GCR within a simple model of a bounded magnetosphere, we have calculated some parameters of magnetospheric current systems, namely, the ring current radius, the magnetopause current radius, and the Dst index.

CORONAL JETS AS A CAUSE OF MICROWAVE NEGATIVE BURSTS
We have investigated the cause of three “isolated” negative radio bursts recorded one after another at several frequencies in the 1–17 GHz range at the Nobeyama Radio Observatory, Ussuriysk Astrophysical Observatory, and...
DATABASE OF GEOMAGNETICALLY INDUCED CURRENTS IN THE MAIN TRANSMISSION LINE “NORTHERN TRANSIT”
Database containing the results of measurements of geomagnetically induced currents (GIC) for the period of 2011 to 2022 in transformer neutrals at three 330 kV substations of the main power transmission lines “Northern...
CLASSIFICATION OF MAGNETOSPHERIC RESPONSES TO INTERACTION WITH DIAMAGNETIC STRUCTURES OF SLOW SOLAR WIND
We propose a possible classification of the responses of the magnetosphere to the interaction with diamagnetic structures (DS), which form the basis of the slow solar wind. The main determinants of the classification are...
STUDYING AURORAL ACTIVITY USING THE SME INDEX AT THE MAGNETIC STORM MAIN PHASE DURING CIR AND ICME EVENTS
In this paper, we examine the relationship of the SME index with magnetic storm characteristics and interplanetary medium parameters during the main phase of magnetic storms caused by CIR and ICME events. Over the period...
OBSERVING THE NEUTRON COMPONENT DURING THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY AT A MOUNTAIN CR STATION
During three summer months in 2015, the Cosmic Ray (CR) station Irkutsk-3000, located at 3000 m above sea level, measured the CR neutron component intensity with the 6NM64 neutron monitor, as well as the atmospheric elec...
