MORPHO-ANATOMICAL ASPECTS OF PROBOSCIDEA LOUISIANICA (MILL.) THELL.
Journal Title: Analele Stiintifice ale Universitatii Alexandru Ioan Cuza din Iasi, Serie noua, Sectiunea II a. Biologie vegetala - Year 2009, Vol 55, Issue 2
Abstract
Proboscidea louisianica (Mill.) Thell. is a member of Martyniaceae family, known as devil’s claw or unicorn plant. Is an annual plant of almost 80 cm high with thick stem where the medullary parenchyma disorganizes and forms a wide aeriferous canal. Leaves are amphistomatic, with bifacial-heterofacial structure and normal dorsiventrality. Whole body of the plant is covered by secretory hairs. The flowers are trompet-shaped. The fruit is a dehiscent capsule of almost 10 cm length ended in a beak. When the fruit reaches maturity, the sclerenchyma fibers strongly lignify and determine its breakage in two symmetric parts (as claws, where the common name of the plant comes from) liberating the seeds. Ornamental plant, alimentary, too, because the pots can be eaten as pickles.

THE BIOLOGICAL LASER SYSTEMS AS BIOPHOTONIC MODELS OF THE LIVING MATTER WITH LIVING MATTER THERMODYNAMIC IMPLICATIONS. THE BIOLOGICAL LASER THEORY (PART II)
The paper consists in the obligatory theoretical examination from a thermodynamic point of view of the “biophotonic model” of “laser systems” and “biological laser phenomena” as models of the living matter structur...
DEALING WITH HALOPHYTES: AN OLD PROBLEM, THE SAME CONTINUOUS EXCITING CHALLENGE
It’s common sense to usually recognize some concepts as being very simple and accessible. Often, this could lead to a reductionist way in which some problems are regarded and understood. In plant ecology, many conc...
