Mother School as an important form of propaganda of pedagogical and medical knowledge in the Ukrainian SSR in the second half of the 20th century

Abstract
The article outlines the activities of the mother's school as a form of propaganda of pedagogical and medical knowledge in the Ukrainian SSR in the second half of the 20th century. It investigated that in the Ukrainian SSR the first mother's schools were organized in Luhansk, Stalin, Mykolayiv, Cherkassy, Poltava, Vinnytsia and Volyn regions in 1959-1960s. According to the Regulations on the mother's school, the purpose of the institution was to provide methodological psychological and pedagogical assistance to parents in the education of children from an early age in the family. Classes in the mother's school have lasted1,5-2 hours one or two times a month for 2 years. The mother's school had before pre-schooling and pre-school education departments (according to it curricula and programs were developed). Classes in these departments were held on different days once a month. In this way, mothers were given the opportunity to have training in both departments and to get knowledge about the upbringing of children of different age groups. At the mother's school, the students received knowledge of psychology, physiology, sanitation and hygiene and the basics of before pre-schooling and pre-school pedagogy about the proper organization of different age children`s lives in the family, the individual characteristicsof children, the pedagogical tact of parents in education; specifics of preparation for studying at school and upbringing of high moral qualities, beliefs, and also principles and methods of hardening of children, some practical skills of hygienic care of a child, and also received advice on the organization of children's holidays, walks, interesting and reasonable leisure activities for children, about growth of useful skills and habits, autonomy in self-service and love for work, etc. So, in the mother's schools there were combined theoretical lectures and reports with practical advice and practical exercises, in particular, the following form so work with parents were used as lectures and consultations, questions and answers evenings, parental exchange conferences on children's upbringing, excursions, exhibitions organization, issue of new sletters and wallpapers, review of popular science and feature films on children's education.
