МОВНІ ЗАСОБИ ВІДТВОРЕННЯ КОНЦЕПТІВ УКРАЇНЕЦЬ ТА УКРАЇНА В ПУБЛІЦИСТИЦІ ДЖЕЙМСА МЕЙСА

Abstract
The article describes and characterizes the linguistic means of reproducing the concepts Ukrainian and Ukraine in the journalism of James Mace, representing the worldview and expressive potential of the author’s work. An American who devoted his entire life to the study of Ukrainian history was an indefatigable contributor to the newspaper Day. Mace’s language arsenal is varied, unique, and individual. The journalist is free to choose lexical means, topics for discussion and the manner of information presentation. The lexical means of realizing the concepts Ukrainian and Ukraine concern mainly the commonly used vocabulary, since James Mace’s feature articles are intended for a wide readership, yet the author often enhances the emotional value of the given information with the help of figurative means, in particular the most commonly used are metaphors, epithets, and comparisons. These most productive tropes have shown the richness of the author’s vocabulary andfigurative-associative palette. The analysed concepts Ukrainian and Ukraine are extremely important for understanding the Ukrainian culture in general, they reveal the mental portrait of the people.
