Na+/Ca2+ EXCHANGER AS A TARGET FOR STATIC MAGNETIC FIELD

Journal Title: World Science - Year 2018, Vol 3, Issue 5

Abstract

The presented work attempted to study the effects of SMF-treated RS and SMF-treated K+-free RS on hibernating snail, when the Na+/K+ pump was in passive and artificially blocked states, respectively. The Ca2+ uptake, cell hydration level and membrane potential of Helix pomatia snail neurons were investigated. Results have shown, that SMF-treated RS elevated Ca2+ uptake in hibernating snail leading to the synaptic activation of the snail neuron. SMF-treated K+-free RS does not significantly change the amount of absorbed Ca2+ ions, however it leads to the decrease of hydration level of the ganglia as compared to the experiments performed with the untreated K+-free RS. This is accompanied by the inhibitory effect on cell electrical activity. According to the obtained results it can be concluded that (1) The SMF-treated RS effect on hibernating snail ganglia neurons is realized via activation of R Na+/Ca2+ exchanger, and (2) the SMF-induced effect is not implemented by the Na+/K+ pump because in case of applying K+-free RS the SMF effect is still observed, but the manifestation of its effect strongly depends on the functional state of the pump.
