National symbols period of revolutionary events of 1917-1921: research issues

Abstract

The main sources of research of national symbolism of pre-war competitions are considered and analyzed. The foundations that have become truly national today, namely the trident, the image of Archangel Michael and the Lion, a combination of yellow-and-blue colors, the use of currants. The groups of sources bearing information about the symbols of the period of revolutionary competitions are analyzed. The main works of dedication to the symbolism of national competitions of 1917-1921. The first works were published in the interwar period and were of an exploratory nature. Diaspora historiography of the post-war period considered the issue of military symbols in a more mysterious context of national and state symbols, state awards, and individual problems of heraldry. During the Soviet period, no research was conducted. Already at the present stage, systematic studies are conducted on the symbolism and uniform of the tusks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 1917-1920 years.
