Bank long term financing in Poland – regulatory context

Journal Title: Zarządzanie i Finanse - Year 2013, Vol 11, Issue 2

Abstract

The paper shows the high risks arising from the implementation of standards CRD IV / CRR (Basel III) involving the occurrence of potential gaps in stable sources of financing the Polish banking sector. It presents the threat of a negative impact on the economy due to the possible reduction of long-term loan offer for all bank customers. Risks are considered through the prism of both: internal (eg. , deposits and funds collected for pension purposes) and external sources of obtaining long-term financing (supply by foreign bank headquarters, securitization, bond issues) by the banks. Analysis of the reasons for the relatively low level of long-term financing in Poland shows a number of regulatory barriers, and possible initiatives to improve these alarming perspective.
