Bioinformatics prediction of metal binding sites in some proteins in Helianthus annuus and Oryza sativa

Journal Title: Scientia Agriculturae - Year 2013, Vol 2, Issue 2

Abstract

Some heavy metals, particularly copper and zinc are essential micronutrients for a range of plant physiological processes via the action of Cu- and Zn-dependent enzymes. Plants like all living organisms have evolved a suite of mechanisms that control and respond to the uptake and accumulation of both essential and nonessential heavy metals. The purpose of present study is to study the bioinformatics of metal binding sites in some proteins in Helianthus annuus and Oryza sativa. Amino acid sequences of Type 2 Metallothionein Helianthus annuus and Metallothionein in Oryza sativa (Metallothionein-like protein 1A) with accession numbers of ABO26877.1 and AAD02475.1 was taken from NCBI website. Bioinformatic prediction in protein sequence Metallothionein 2 of Helianthus annuus using web server MetalDetector showed that the protein, in its 13 amino acids (Cysteine), in the sites 3, 4,4,8,10,14,16,20,23,63,65,67,71 and 76 possess interaction property with heavy metals. Sequence of amino acids containing metal binding sites property in Helianthus annuus and Oryza sativa had been checked using T-Coffee and MultiAlin. Results showed that the mentioned sequences have similarities in many amino acids and these similar sequences possess interaction property with heavy metals.
