ECONOMIC ASPECTS OF CIVIL SOCIETY: NATIONAL AND FOREIGN APPROACHES

Abstract

The object of the research is the civil society formation and development. The subject of the study is the theoretical bases of civil society formation in the conditions of changes in the socio-economic system. The purpose of this paper is the substantiation of the economic aspect of the civil society concept under conditions of transformation of the socio-economic relations. Objectives of the research are review of the theoretical approaches to the definition of civil society; identification of common and opposite interpretation features of national and foreign scientists in this issue; development of the essence of civil society concept in economic aspect. Research methodology is based on the theoretical positions of economic and social sciences, scientific papers of the leading national and foreign authors on understanding the concepts of civil society during the change in the socio-economic system. We used systematic, historical, economic and logical approaches, the method of analysis and the dialectical method of phenomena and processes understanding. Results of the research. Concepts and approaches of foreign scientists are more detailed. They highlight certain aspects or elements of civil society: values and norms, people intellectual level, people relationships, the level of confidence and so on. Common features in the interpretation of civil society concept by foreign and national analysts are the using of abstract understanding of civil society as a macro-sociological attribute of society; institutional approach to the study of civil society; economic and social approach of focusing on individual citizens' participation in problem solving. It is determined that characteristics which emphasize the economic aspect of civil society concept are self-organization, self-democratization of decision-making, clear understanding of the needs, providing society with essential goods. Scope of results. Identified economic characteristics of civil society help to improve the understanding of economic phenomena and processes and the formulation of economic policies concepts in accordance with changes in the socio-economic system of society.
