Effects of salinity stress, salicylic acid and Pseudomonas on the physiological characteristics and yield of seed beans (Phaseolus vulgaris)

Journal Title: Scientia Agriculturae - Year 2016, Vol 14, Issue 2

Abstract

Grains are the second of food source for human after the cereals. Among the Grains, the bean has special importance. In our country especially in arid and semiarid most of the areas are salty and this plant is sensitive to salinity condition, so it is necessary that to make a plan to prevent of decreasing plant yield. Stimulants bacteria's such as pseudomonads, strengthening the plants against the salinity negative effects. Salicylic acid increases the plant resistance to salinity negative effects by regulating physiological processes. For this purpose an experiment was conducted in form of randomize complete design with three replications in the greenhouse of agricultural faculty Birjand University in 2013. Treatments were 3 levels of soil salinity including: 0, 2, and 4 ds/m, 2 levels of bacterium Pseudomonas putida (inoculated and non-inoculated) and salicylic acid with 2 levels (0 and 1 mM). Results showed that salinity, salicylic acid and interaction of salinity and salicylic acid had a significant effect on leaf relative water content. Also, salinity, Pseudomonas, and salicylic acid had a significant effect on chlorophyll index, weight of 100 seeds and Percent of protein seed. Also salinity, salicylic acid, Pseudomonas and interaction effects between salinity and salicylic acid were significant on the seed yield. Generally, salicylic acid and Pseudomonas were investigated to reduce the effect of salinity on the indicators.
