Evaluating the of effects of mergers and acquisitions on the basis of an abnormal returns analysis

Abstract

 This paper contains a current Polish M&A market diagnosis, comparing it to the global market. Abnormal returns method is also presented. This method allows to capture additional market reaction, as a result of the particular event – future merger or acquisition. Many researchers devoted their work to that topic and have found that higher abnormal returns can be earn by the shareholders of target company. Results of some foreign and Polish research are presented. This paper also provides the results of research conducted by the author, which assesses the effects of 384 mergers and acquisitions, which took place in the Polish capital market in years 2001 – 2012.
