Multi-scale crack closure measurements with digital image correlation on Haynes 230
Journal Title: Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale - Year 2015, Vol 9, Issue 33
Abstract
An experimental campaign was developed to study fatigue crack growth in Haynes 230, a Ni-based superalloy. The effects of crack closure were investigated with digital image correlation, by applying two different approaches. Initially, full field regression algorithms were applied to extract the effective stress intensity factor ranges from the singular displacement field measured at crack tips. Local closure measurements were then performed by considering crack flanks relative displacements. Two points virtual extensometers were applied in this phase. Experimental results were then compared to the reference da/dN –ΔKeff curve: it was found that the correct estimation of crack opening levels shifts all the experimental points on the reference curve, showing that DIC can be successfully applied to measure crack closure effects.

Wedge splitting test method: quantification of influence of glued marble plates by two-parameter fracture mechanics
In the present paper, the well-known wedge splitting test (WST) is applied on specimens with different geometries (S= 150, 200, 300 mm) and variants of the specimens’ configurations. K-calibration (B1) and T-stre...
Meso-mechanics simulation analysis of microwave-assisted mineral liberation
Microwave-assisted crushing and grinding can improve efficiency and reduce energy consumption. This paper takes rock grains with galena and calcite as the research object to establish a two-dimensional comput...
Fracture Mechanics: Inspirations from Nature
In Nature there are many examples of materials performing structural functions. Nature requires materials which are stiff and strong to provide support against various forces, including self-weight, the dynamic f...
Limit analysis on FRP-strengthened RC members
Reinforced concrete (RC) members strengthened with externally bonded fiber-reinforced-polymer(FRP) plates are numerically investigated by a plasticity-based limit analysis approach. The key-concept of thepresent ap...
