Random accumulated damage evaluation under multiaxial fatigue loading conditions
Journal Title: Frattura ed Integrità Strutturale - Year 2015, Vol 9, Issue 33
Abstract
Multiaxial fatigue is a very important physical phenomenon to take into account in several mechanical components; its study is of utmost importance to avoid unexpected failure of equipment, vehicles or structures. Among several fatigue characterization tools, a correct definition of a damage parameter and a load cycle counting method under multiaxial loading conditions show to be crucial to estimate multiaxial fatigue life. In this paper, the SSF equivalent stress and the virtual cycle counting method are presented and discussed, regarding their physical foundations and their capability to characterize multiaxial fatigue damage under complex loading blocks. Moreover, it is presented their applicability to evaluate random fatigue damage.

Study of the conditions of fracture at explosive compaction of powders
Joint theoretical and experimental investigations have allowed to realize an approach with use of mathematical and physical modeling of processes of a shock wave loading of powder materials. In order to gain a bette...
3D-mixed-mode-loading: material characteristic values and criteria’s validity
In many structures and components cracks, which are exposed to a 3D-mixed-mode-loading, occur due to multiaxial loading situation. A reliable evaluation of those components requires fracture mechanical criteria v...
The application of the infrared thermography on titanium alloy for studying fatigue behavior
The infrared thermography is an attractive tool for studying the fatigue behavior of materials. Based on two theoretical models of fatigue damage indicators, this work studied the fatigue properties of the virgin T...
Some practical crack path examples
It is well known that many engineering structures and components, as well as consumer items, contain cracks or crack-like flaws. It is widely recognised that crack growth must be considered both in design and in...
Evaluation of stress intensity factor of multiple inclined cracks under biaxial loading
A finite rectangular plate of unit thickness with two inclined cracks (parallel and non parallel) under biaxial mixed mode condition are modelled using finite element method. The finite element method is used for d...
