SYMPATHETIC OPHTHALMITIS AFTER LIMBAL CORNEAL TEAR REPAIR - A CASE STUDY
Journal Title: Journal of Evolution of Medical and Dental Sciences - Year 2016, Vol 5, Issue 61
Abstract
Sympathetic ophthalmia is a rare bilateral granulomatous inflammation that follows accidental or surgical insult to the uvea of one eye. In this study, we discuss a case of who presented after corneal tear repair two months back. Patient has a history of ocular trauma by bamboo two months back. Patient came with severe diminution of vision, pain and redness in both eye with multiple KPs in cornea and severe AC reaction. On B scan and OCT, exudative retinal detachment was present in both eyes. Patient started extensive therapy with systemic and local steroid. An autoimmune hypersensitivity reaction against exposed ocular antigens in the injured eye is believed to be responsible. The case of so is very rare nowadays due to improved surgical intervention early. Benefit of antiinflammatory and immuno-modulatory therapy has convincing trends and significant variability in outcome and adverse effect associated with long-term systemic therapy.
