Synthesis of 1,3-diamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene from trinitroresorcinol

Abstract
The review of synthesis methods for 1,3-diamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene (DATB) since 1884 to 2002 was performed. A novel method synthesis method of 1,3-diethoxy-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene (DEtTNB) with trinitroresorcinol and diethyl orthoformate was described. Next DEtTNB was transformed to the 1,3-diamino-2,4,6- trinitrobenzene with ammonia dissolved in toluene. The precursor and final compound structure was confirmed with 1H, 13C i 15N NMR spectroscopy. For both compounds energetic properties examination was performed with differential thermal analysis coupled with thermogravimetry (DTA/TG). DEtTNB melts at 121ºC, and decomposes exothermically at 281ºC. The final compound exhibits a characteristic solid phase change at 229ºC, next melts at 284ºC and decomposes exothermically at 325ºC.
