Transylvania in the strategy of Hungary on the Peace Conference of 1946

Journal Title: Codrul Cosminului - Year 2011, Vol 17, Issue 1

Abstract

At the end of the Second World War, Hungary and the Hungarian Diaspora in Western Europe proposed at the Peace Conference in Paris several solutions for solving the Transylvanian situation. The Hungarian propagandistic strategy referred to the presentation of some “equitable” proposals like: an independent republic, military occupation, foreign supervision, respecting the rights of every nation from this republic. Among the instruments used to accomplish this purpose there are diplomatic memoirs, articles from the Western press or personal letters, addressed to the ministers of Foreign Affairs from the winning powers. Their research and analysis, based on French diplomatic documents, complete the image of an important chapter of the Romanian history.
