Neue Schriftfunde aus Britannien: die «Bloomberg Tablets» (T.Lond.)

Abstract

Excavations in the City of London in 2010–2014 have furnished a wealth of writing tablets from first-century Londinium, mainly from a business context. This article looks into some of these documents from an ancient literacy perspective. The findings lend further support to the hypothesis that both the private and the state sectors shared (for their respective written communication needs) common, cross-sector conventions in terms of terminology, abbreviations or formulae.
