New Cardiovascular Risk Factors; Resting Heart Rate, Hs-CRP, Fibrinogen and PMNL

Journal Title: Journal of Clinical and Analytical Medicine - Year 2012, Vol 3, Issue 1

Abstract

Aim: In this study we aimed to evaluate the possibility of a presence of an association between the high resting heart rate and micro inflammatory response and with the help of any found, clarify the recently identified negative cardiovascular prognosis in individuals with high resting heart rate from an etiological point of view. Material and Method: Study was conducted in September, 2009 with a total of 67 male cases consisting of 36 cases that are followed up at Haseki Egt. ve Ars. Hospital Cardiology Outpatient and Coronary Intensive Care Clinic and 31 cases included in the control group. Patient and control groups were compared regarding age, body mass index, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, leukocyte count, hs-CRP and fibrinogen levels, coronary risk factors and resting heart rates. Result: Significant difference was seen between resting heart rate, smoking and positive family history. There were statistically significant differences between the patient group and the control group regarding systolic and diastolic blood pressure, leukocyte count, hs-CRP and fibrinogen levels and resting heart rates (p<0,001). In terms of factors effecting resting heart rate of cases with coronary artery disease smoking has found to be the exclusive independent predictor of high resting heart rate(Beta=0,603 , t=4,410 ; p<0,001). Discussion: As smoking found to be the only independent predictor of high resting heart rate in cases with coronary artery disease, we think that high resting heart rate is associated with micro inflammatory response. Although there are studies suggesting that lowering the resting heart rate in both healthy individuals and cases with coronary artery disease yield to longer survival periods there is no clear evidence about how and to what degree it can be done. Thus, supported with additional studies our study may be of assistance to academicians searching for new therapeutic approaches.
