New method of soil tests with piles by load relaxation method

Abstract

The stress relaxation method is recommended as one of the rapid soil tests with piles in the State standard of Ukraine. There is a number of contradictions and conditional assumptions in the instruction that prevent its usage. A new method of rapid test by load relaxation method is given in the article. The load is as the steps, which value is determined in accordance with the current standard. After reaching its value that equals to the value of the next stage, the support of its permanence stops. The relaxation of the load is identified with two processes: its shrinkage and increment of settlement. After their stabilizing, the next stage of the load is applied. Based on the results of settlement graph against load taking into account its value after load application and after stopping its relaxation is determined. The graph consists of two branches. According to the first one, the load is determined corresponding to the ultimate resistance of soil shear along the shaft surface, and according to the second one is the compressive resistance below the tip. The authenticity of the results, obtained by the relaxation method, was confirmed with the results of standard method tests. The advantage of the relaxation method of the load is to reduce the duration of the test in 2,5...3 times while maintaining the test results. The article presents the test results of production pile of 12 m. In the last stage the load is applied twice. At the beginning, the tests were carried out by the relaxation method, with the duration of 25 minutes. The same load was re-carried out with its constancy to the stabilizing of the settlement, which lasted 75 minutes. More than 30 test piles were carried out by the relaxation method of the l.
