NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF CONTACT PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION IN STANDARD FRICTION NODES

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2010, Vol 234, Issue 6

Abstract

The paper describe method of modelling and analysing contact stress distribution in chosen tribological nodes. Analyses based on results from finite elements friction models. The experiment involves four different geometrical cases of friction nodes. There cases base on flat contact and one on concentrated contact. All friction nodes are using for testing metal-polymer friction couples. Investigation consider analysis for pin-on-disc, pin-on-cylinder, cube-on-plate and plate-oncylinder geometrical shapes. Parameters of numerical models were coefficient of friction (μ1 = 0.2 and μ2 = 0.4), stiffness of polymer (E1 = 1000 MPa and E2 = 2000 MPa) and highness of polymer samples (h1 = 5 mm, h2 = 2.5 mm). Results of investigation shows that highness of polymer samples is very important for contact stress distribution. Others parameter has also influence for properly contact. Very important for contact stress distribution is also running-in process which is necessary before doing experimental tribological tests. Results of experiments could be consider in the discussion of experimental tribological investigation and accuracy of experimental friction characteristics.
