O ADMINISTRADOR E AS ORGANIZAÇÕES SOB A ÓTICA DAS COMPETÊNCIAS

Abstract

This paper analyzes how the concept of competency has evolved over time and how it has been used, both in organizations and to describe management professionals. Starting from the historical evolution of the concept of individual competency, we explore it in the organizational context, describing how it is applied and understood by managers. Besides, we verify how managers have been defining competency and describe organizational activities that are directly related to the use of this concept. Some examples are the mapping of competencies, training and workforce development, compensation and performance evaluation. Finally, we study, in particular, how administrator competencies have been described, both having governmental agencies as a reference and specific research conducted on the topic. We hope that this review could be a basis for the construction of new competency models, applicable in organizations, in order to allow a proper assessment and planning of the development of their professionals.
