Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2017, Vol 10, Issue 52

Abstract

İsmet İnönü's visit to North Anatolia including Kastamonu, Zonguldak, Bartın, Karabük and Çankırı took place in between December 6 to December 13, 1938. This tour was actually a visit that İnönü had planned but could not fulfill before leaving the post of prime minister. Unemployment, education and epidemics were the most important problems where İnönü was in the examination. İnönü's preference to learn the problems of citizens during the trip without intermediaries and to record these issues in his notebook were also often handled in the national press. As a matter of fact, in the following period, efforts were made to solve these problems with the personal instructions of İnönü. İnönü’s visit to North Anatolia also had widespread attention in the articles of contemporary authors. The leading writers and political figures such as Etem İzzet Benice, Asım Us, Falih Rıfkı Atay, Hüseyin Cahit Yalçın, Necmeddin Sadak and Peyami Safa determined that this visit would affect the entire country, it includes only North Anatolia. Undoubtedly, this visit was an example of the administrators working together with the Republic to learn and solve the problems of the people through communicating with the them.
