Optimization of Data Hiding Requirements in Medical Imaging

Abstract

Data hiding is the process of encoding hidden copyright information in an image by making small modifications to the pixel content. Data hiding process can be split into three main steps: watermark generation and embedding (information encoding), possible attacks (transmission through the channel), and watermark retrieval (information decoding at the receiver side). Data hiding, unlike encryption does not restrict the access to the image information. Due to the diversity of digital watermarking applications and since there are many different techniques, in this project, we have used Additive and LSB techniques in spatial as well as frequency domains. In frequency domain, DWT and DCT were used. This work aims to estimate the data hiding capacity of Region of Interest (ROI) medical images, and to optimize the JPEG survival level that allow acceptable JPEG compression for conventional spatial domain watermarking techniques namely LSB technique, additive technique and spread spectrum technique. Using 25 images for each of the modalities i.e. X-Ray, MRI, CT scan, Ultrasound, a relationship between imperceptibility, robustness and capacity was found out. This method was adopted to find which of the four modalities has the maximum capacity and also to set a standard
