Soft Computing Techniques in Location Determination of Nodes in MANET

Abstract

Soft Computing (SC) has emerged as an effective candidate to deal with finding the nodes in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). Over the past years, location-based routing protocols have been studied extensively MANETs. However, how to efficiently provide the location information for nodes is still a challenge. So far, many protocols have been proposed to solve this problem, most of which offer exact routing location information, and are complicated to implement in practice. In this paper, we propose a fuzzy location service (FLS), which introduces fuzzy location information. With an increased importance of security issues, it has become critical to determine reliability of SN. The minimum number of communication hops utilizing least number of links rather than all possible hops plays a significant role in network security and reliability. The simulation results show that FLS has better performance than GLS and HLS, in terms of routing waiting time and routing success ratio. The Minimum Hops Path (MinHP) takes minimum number of links to communicate between the source and the sink node. The Minimum Hops Cut sets (MinHC) is the cut set with minimum number of links in each of the cut set terms. An efficient but approximate Minimum Hop Terminal Reliability scheme that utilizes MinHP and MinHC is proposed. The proposed approximate Min-Max system reliability algorithm for SN outperforms traditional algorithms. These algorithms are shown to provide reasonably accurate results with significant reduction in number of computations.
