Optimization of smooth skin microsporia treatment

Abstract

Objective — to optimize the treatment of patients with smooth skin microsporia with predominantly affected vellus hair of children and adults by using complex terbinafine antimycotic therapy, an antifungal drug, 2 % cream of sertaconazole nitrate and probiotic-vitamin-mineral complex. Materials and methods. 90 patients with smooth skin microsporia aged 4 to 19 years were monitored. Among them there were 3 adults and 87 children (53 girls and 34 boys). In 85 patients, the defeat of vellus hair was observed. 22 patients had concomitant colds: acute respiratory viral infections (18 cases) and their complications (2 cases of pharyngitis and 2 cases of bronchitis). All patients were divided into 3 groups. All of them were prescribed terbinafine depending on the body weight: less than 20 kg — 62.5 mg/day (1/4 tablets), 20 to 40 kg — 125 mg/day (1/2 tablet), over 40 kg — 250 mg/day (1 tablet). Systemic therapy was combined with external treatment with 2 % cream of sertaconazole nitrate. In the 2nd and 3rd groups, the patients were prescribed the original probiotic-vitamin-mineral complex Bion 3 Kid depending on the age: from 4 to 12 years — 1 chewable tablet per day, from 12 years and older — 2 tablets within 30 days. The duration of treatment in the 1st group was 1 to 5 weeks, depending on the localization of the pathological process, in the 2nd group — from 1 to 4 weeks, in the 3rd group — from 2 to 6 weeks. Results and discussion. Due to the treatment, clinical and etiological recovery was achieved in all 90 patients with microsporia. The duration of treatment in the three groups was 1 to 6 weeks, depending on the localization of the pathological process. The duration of treatment in the 1st group was 1 to 5 weeks, in the 2nd group — from 1 to 4 weeks, in the 3rd group — from 2 to 6 weeks. Introduction of the original probiotic-vitamin-mineral complex Bion 3 Kid into the complex treatment with systemic antimycotics terbinafine and 2 % cream of sertaconazole nitrate provided an opportunity to improve the results of treatment and shorten the duration of treatment by 7 days. There was a good tolerability of drugs without changes in the parameters of general and biochemical blood tests, urine tests after the termination of the course of therapy. Conclusions. The optimization of complex treatment of patients with microsporia with systemic antimycotic terbinafine and 2 % cream of sertaconazole nitrate in combination with a probiotic-vitamin-mineral complex made it possible to improve the effectiveness of treatment, accelerate clinical and mycological recovery, prevent recurrence of the disease and the occurrence of concomitant colds during treatment. The original probiotic-vitamin-mineral complex Bion 3 Kid is effective and safe in case of microsporia of smooth skin in children. This complex method proved to be effective and safe in the treatment of patients with microsporia of smooth skin with a predominant lesion of vellus hair in children and adults, as well as for the treatment of patients with microsporia with concomitant colds and their complications.
