Optimization of treatment of microsporia of scalp in children

Abstract

Objective — to optimize the treatment of patients with microsporia of the scalp by using systemic antimycotic agent griseofulvin in combination with Antral, antifungal 2 % sertaconazole nitrate cream and a probiotic-vitamin-mineral complex Bion 3 Kid. Materials and methods. Under observation were 90 patients with microsporia of the scalp aged 4 to 17 years (36 girls and 54 boys). 16 patients had concomitant colds: acute respiratory viral infections (12 cases) and their complications (4 cases): pharyngitis (2 cases), bronchitis (2 cases). All patients were divided into 3 groups. All of them were prescribed griseofulvin in tablets dosed 21—22 mg per 1 kg of the patient’s body weight in combination with Antral drug. Daily doses of the drugs were taken three times a day. Patients took Antral in tablets, depending on age: children of 4—10 years of age — 100 mg per dose, those over 10 years of age — 200 mg 3 times a day. Systemic therapy was combined with external treatment with 2 % sertaconazole nitrate cream. In the 2nd and 3rd groups, the patients were prescribed the original probiotic-vitamin-mineral complex Bion 3 Kid depending on age: from 4 to 12 years — 1 chewable tablet per day, 12 years and older — 2 tablets per day within 30 days. The duration of treatment in the 1st group was from 2 to 4 weeks, in the 2nd group — from 2 to 3 weeks, in the 3rd group — from 3 to 5 weeks. After treatment, the patients were recommended to take the Bion 3 Kid probiotic-vitamin-mineral complex for 30 days in order to prevent the recurrence of microsporia and acute respiratory viral infections and to accelerate hair growth in the lesions on the scalp. Results and discussion. As a result of the treatment, clinical and etiological recovery was achieved in all 90 patients with microsporia of the scalp. The duration of treatment ranged from 2 to 5 weeks: in the 1st group – from 2 to 4 weeks, in the 2nd group — from 2 to 3 weeks, in the 3rd group — from 3 to 5 weeks. The introduction to the complex treatment of systemic antimycotics griseofulvin, Antral and 2 % cream of sertaconazole nitrate in combination, as also the original probiotic-vitamin-mineral complex Bion 3 Kid provided an opportunity to increase efficiency and improve treatment results, reduce treatment time by 1 week, prevent recurrence of the disease and the occurrence of concomitant colds during treatment. Good tolerability of the drugs was observed without changes in the indicators of general and biochemical blood and urine tests after the end of the course of therapy. Conclusions. Optimization of the complex treatment of scalp microsporia with systemic antimycotics griseofulvin, Antral, 2 % sertaconazole nitrate cream in combination and Bion 3 Kid probioticvitamin and mineral complex made it possible to improve treatment efficiency and reduce the duration of treatment, accelerate clinical and mycological recovery, prevent recurrence of microsporia and the occurrence of concomitant colds during treatment. This complex method is effective and safe for treatment of microsporia of the scalp in children, including those with concomitant colds and their complications.
