Optimizing the fabrication of abrasion-resistant and<br /> transparent organosilicon coating<br /> <br />

Abstract
A double group abrasion-resistant organosilicon coating is designed and prepared, which can be used to enhance the surface scratch-resistance of PMMA. Group A contains the major component of tetraethoxy silane (TEOS) and methyltrimethoxy silane (MTMS), supplying with γ-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxy silane (KH-560), γ-methacryloxypropyltrimethoxy silane (KH-570) and isopropyl alcohol. Group B contains hydrochloride, water and condensation catalyst. Group A and group B can be preserved for 6 months without any change at room temperature. The coating is prepared through mixing A and B at a proper ratio. The influence of the ratio between TEOS and MTMS, kinds of solvents, contents of water, hydrochloride and additives on the resulting coating and its properties are discussed in this paper. The final coating has 13% solid content. A transparent film on PMMA is made by using dip-coating technique. The coating on PMMA has a pencil hardness as high as 6H, with an adhesive property of grade 1 and transmittance of 94.8%.
