Osteoporosis and its medical management. A literature review

Abstract
The traditionally high incidence of osteoporosis along with the gradually increasing pharmacological treatment with the use of modern antiresorptive medication among others, make it quite certain that the dentist will come across patients, who are being treated with this kind of medication. Medication related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ), is a serious disease that has been associated among others with teeth extraction, implant surgery, and trauma due to ill-fitting dentures. In this paper, the modern literature concerning osteoporosis, its treatment options, and the management of those patients who are treated with antiresorptive medication against osteoporosis, are presented.
