Abstract
ADAPTATION OF GERMAN LOANWORDS IN RUSSIAN KURANTY (1600–1639) The paper discusses the process of adapting German loanwords into the Russian language. Source material is extracted from the first handwritten editions of Russian opinio n journalism (from 1600 to 1639). The paper reveals the process of absorbing loanwords on phonetic and morphological levels and records changes in word genders and resonance variants in words internalized into Russian either originating directly from German or passed on through German from other languages.
