«PARADE OF SOVEREIGNTY»: HISTORICAL AND LEGAL ASPECTS OF ADOPTION OF THE DECLARATION OF UKRAINIAN STATE SOVEREIGNTY

Abstract
In the article, based on the example of the Ukrainian SSR, a political process known as the “Parade of sovereignty” is explored. The procedure of the creation and adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine is considered. The author gives his own interpretation of the role of various political forces during the adoption of the Declaration. The importance of the parliamentary opposition in defending of national priorities and democratic values in the course of the adoption of this historical document is emphasized. The structure and the main principles of the Declaration were revealed. Legal act, which laid the foundations for the formation of Ukraine as an independent state, was analyzed.
