„Paraemigracja”, czyli życie w podróży. Wybrane aspekty emigracji artystycznej w dobie cywilizacji cyfrowej

Abstract

“Para-emigration”, or life on the go. Selected aspects of artistic emigration in the era of digital civilization The topic discussed in this article includes the issue of parting, which is connected with the nature of emigration understood as exile. In Poland, a country sorely experienced by history, such an understanding of the term is well established and justified. But is it still valid in today’s societies, which have been transformed by the technological and digital revolution? It is possible that this technological progress makes it possible to modify and broaden the scope of the term “emigration”, including its variants: “immigration”, “migration”, “re-emigration”. After all, the disappearance of political barriers (dividing Europe into countries of people’s democracy and the West) made emigration a different dimension. The link with the country can be maintained through the communication and transport technologies that are characteristic of today’s digital society. That is why I propose to change the research approach and to analyse the cases of “para-emigration” – understood as a voluntary combination of two artistic creation sites belonging to different cultures/countries, for an unlimited period of time. Examples of simultaneous creative work in two centres meeting the above criteria are Krzysztof M. Bednarski, suspended between Rome and Warsaw, and Dominik Lejman, associated with the Gdańsk-Poznań and Berlin centres. The aim of my research will be to reflect on the artistic consequences of living in “para-emigration".
