Wątpienie Cybisa

Abstract

Cybis’ doubt Jan Cybis’ painting process was long, especially since he was interested in “settling” and not painting a picture. The hardship and anguish of the long process leading to the “settling” of a given image were recorded in the heavy and thick matter of his paintings. Cybis’ glance, using the philosophy of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, aimed to bring out “the invisible” from “the visible”. Recently, postmodernism, distrustful of such a constructed visual structure that could not claim to express the truth or moral values, has subjected to a critical revision what was created in travails and toil.
