Abstract

RAFAL EYSYMONTT, LUKASZ KRZYWKA (University of Wrocław, Institute of Art History) Wroclaw The Holy Sepulchre Hospital The first mention of the Holy Sepulchre Hospital dates back to 1412. From 1457, it was mentioned as a place of childcare and care. Institutions specialized in care for children coming from non-marital relationships were established since the beginning of the 15th century. One of the oldest is the Spedale degli Innocenti erected in Florence by Filippo Brunelleschi in the years 1419–1424. Nearly the same time of the foundation of the Wrocław hospital and its specialization testify to the close contacts of the burgesses of Wrocław with the Italian cities. The oldest part of the hospital was a brick building’s corner, which housed a chapel. The original dormitory was totally converted into a brick construction in the years 1789–1791. In 1822 the pupils were transferred to a new building. The old hospital was erected in 1858, at the same time the chapel vaults were liquidated. In 2007–2009 the building was rebuilt to the office building Times.
