Journal Title: Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal - Year 2024, Vol 19, Issue 10
Abstract
Focusing on how parents cope with their child's new diagnosis the goal of this research was. The research focused on how parents acted both before and after learning about their child's diagnosis. The informants were five pairs of parents: 5 mothers and five fathers were chosen with criteria set as used purposive sampling. The data was collected via in-depth interviews with each parent and by observing their actions and reactions to their kid at home. It was then analyzed using qualitative data analysis. Data analysis revealed four overarching themes: parental stress, parental engagement and perception, parental quality of life, and parental coping strategies. Their reactions to the diagnosis, the impact it had on their daily lives, the difficulties they encountered in adjusting to life with a child diagnosed with a neurodevelopmental disorder, the stress they felt while watching their child's aberrant behaviors, and how they coped with these issues are all detailed in the evidence. In addition, most informants are eager to adapt and support their children's growth and development. The study's author recommended more research on the emotional toll that parents take after receiving a child's diagnosis.
