Abstract
The article is focused on French toponyms derived from the appellatives of the hydrographical origin. It is emphasized that hydronymy of France is rich in the verbal names of the rivers. It is also proved that hydronymical synecdoches are presented by the names of the rivers, while the toponymic metonymy is presented by the names of localities formed by hydrographical common nouns.
