Peculiarities of Lipid Metabolism in Patients with Prolactinomas during Suppressive Dopamine Agonist Therapy

Abstract

The article presents the data of lipid metabolism at the stages of long-term (12 months) suppressive therapy with dopamine agonist cabergoline in 61 patients with prolactinoma. It is proved that the normalization of prolactin levels during therapy reduces the risk of development and progression of atherogenesis through reduction of total cholesterol content and increase in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Suppressive pharmacotherapy with cabergoline reduces the total cholesterol level in both men and women. Men had most pronounced improvement in the ratio of pro- and antiatherogenic lipid fractions.
