PECULIARITIES OF TRANSLATION OF INTERLINGUAL TERMINOLOGICAL HOMONYMS

Abstract
The article deals with the concept of interlingual homonymy, the problems of translation of interlingual homonyms, distinguishes the basic translation methods and procedures relying on the analysis of particular grammatical constructions., details the features of translation with relation to the subject-logical, semantic content, emotional-expressive words and their stylistic characteristics, words with negative expressive meaning, considers such translation techniques as "neutralization", "smoothing", "leveling" of stylistic means, used in the original text, the use of comments on lacunas, equivalent translation (dictionary matches) and synonymous replacement. The article investigates, from the point of view of second language acquisition and translation, intra- and extralinguistic discrepancy of English and Ukrainian terms. Metaphorically such units are called “false friends of translators”. This papper highlights that the studies of terminological systems in both languages demand these lexemes to be included in dictionaries of interlingual terminological homonymy with regard to their semantic and extralinguistical discrepancies. The studies highlighted problems caused for translation and second language acquisition by interlingual terminological homonymy of the terms. The article offers a range of new approaches to this phenomenon in terminological systems of other social sciences as well as new principles of composing two-language terminological dictionaries. The study made possible to draw theoretical conclusions about the essence of interlingual homonymy of the terms and to outline numerous perspectives of this approach to the problem.
